Salary: £110,000 – £160,000

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You’ll be joining the Kaluza Technology community. We’re a large team of both data-led and product focused Software and Production Engineers, pushing the boundaries of technology and working at scale. As a collective we strive for engineering greatness by ensuring best practices across the board of the community.

You’ll be working across our energy retail and flex platforms. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.

As the Head of Data Science and Data Products at Kaluza, you will lead and build a talented team responsible for developing innovative data products and solutions that deliver value to our customers and drive business growth.

You will play a key role in shaping the company’s data strategy, identifying opportunities for product innovation, and leveraging data science to create compelling and impactful products. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership skills.

You will lead a team of data scientists, engineers and analysts and coach them to own the end to end development and deployment of data pipelines, machine learning models, data products and strategic insights that add value to our platform and our retail clients gross margin. In addition, you’ll be focused on maturing the Data capability, both from a people development perspective, and ensuring we are working with leading tools and techniques in the market

What will I be doing?

  • Define and execute the company’s data, data science and data products strategy, aligning it with business objectives and market needs. Providing strategic leadership to the data science and product teams.
  • Identifying opportunities for leveraging data science and advanced analytics to develop innovative data products and solutions that address customer and client needs and drive business value.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams and product leadership to prioritise and align product development initiatives.
  • Building and promoting our data brand, including being responsible for how we bring new talent to your teams.
  • Managing and developing Managers and Principal Engineers in an autonomous leadership team. Providing technical leadership and line management of hybrid engineering teams split across all of Kaluza’s locations.
  • Fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Providing coaching and professional development opportunities to team members.
  • Overseeing the end-to-end product development lifecycle of teams building data pipelines, data science models and data products, from ideation and design to implementation and deployment.
  • Work closely with engineering teams across Kaluza to enable them to build robust data products that meet customer requirements and quality standards.
  • Collaborating with sales, marketing, and customer success teams to understand client needs, gather feedback, and prioritise product features and enhancements. Ensuring that data products are aligned with client expectations and deliver measurable value.
  • Designing and conducting experiments to test hypotheses and validate product ideas. Continuously iterating on data products based on feedback, performance metrics, and market insights to drive product optimization and innovation.
  • Ensuring that data science and product development practices adhere to ethical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and industry standards, particularly concerning data privacy and security.

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you’ll have/be:

  • Experience of leadership in data science, data products, or related roles, in senior positions.
  • Strong expertise in data science, machine learning, and product development, with a focus on developing data-driven products and solutions.
  • Experience managing and mentoring multidisciplinary teams of data scientists, analysts, and engineers.
  • Experience in building, releasing and operating data science products in production (ML Ops)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Degree or relevant qualifications or experience with computer science, statistics, mathematics, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the energy industry or related domains is a plus.
